Our
Ethics

We produce long-lasting ethical clothing, made with minimal impact on the environment.

For over a decade, all our vegan garments have been made from 100% organic cotton. Our organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers and certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

Our fabric dyeing is also fully organic. The process used and the dyes themselves have organic certification by both GOTS and the Organic Content Standard (OCS).

The screen-printed graphics on our garments are made from
water-based, organic certified inks which are much better for the environment and feel considerably softer on the garment than the more commonly used oil-based inks.

We have even designed our garment swing tag to be re-used as a drinks coaster instead of it heading straight for the bin. The only company in the world to do this.

Our factory is powered entirely by 100% renewable energy from
on-site solar panels.
The electricity generated exceeds the factory’s requirements, with the excess helping power the local area.

Our factory in Turkey is audited every two years by the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI). This independent inspection assesses the level of labour welfare, health and safety, environmental ethics and business standards. All Workers within our supply chain are paid above the national minimum wage.

All employees of Dirty Velvet receive wages in excess of the UK living wage. We do not use unpaid interns ever, a regularly exploited loophole used in the clothing industry.

We are constantly working to ensure the use of methods that are ecologically and socially sustainable throughout our entire supply chain.

Ethical. Organic. Sustainable.
